I always have several paintings in progress, in various stages. From the primed canvas where
is still nothing to see but a white surface, to the picture where only a few steps are necessary until it is completed. So I always have something to do.
I make my own canvases, which means I buy the stretcher bars in the size I want and put them together. Then I cut the fabric, a cotton-linen mixture to size and cover the frame with it.

With a glue I then close the surface of the fabric structure so that the fabric is not completely filled with color. Next, I apply 5 coats of primer with a brush, usually in white. Each layer must dry well before the next can be applied. Since I really like the smooth surface at the moment, I use a razor to scrape the surface smooth or use sandpaper. After that, the canvas is ready for the paint.
